Kirikiriroa Marae

kiri1

This is Kirikiriroa Marae. On this marae there are many different organizations operating.  Everyday there are 150 staff on site.  The marae is often operating 7 days a week.  There's lots of people to talk to about how to make Para Kore work.

kiri2

We did a waste audit at Kirikiriroa marae.  We tipped all the waste out and sorted it all out into plastics, cans, glass, kai, cardboard, paper and any other types of waste we found.

kiri3
We found out that most of the waste was either recyclable or compostable.  74% of what was being thrown out could be diverted from landfill. (Landfills are bad.)
kiri4
We held two wananga with the marae whanau looking at what's happening with the waste now and looking at what we could do with the waste instead of sending it to landfill.  We created an action plan.
kiri7
Stage one involved making greater use of existing kerbside recycling bins and putting up signage to promote recycling. Further education with all organizations on the marae was also prioritized.

Kerbside bins along Dey St, Hamilton.
kiri8
Stage two involves making a security cage for recycling, composting and rubbish. We are working with Para Kore to find further funding for the cage and for consistent bins and signage throughout all of the organisations on our marae.

Add style to your metal driveway by adding unwanted kaimoana shells. As they crush into the gravel, check out the colour effect, it is stunning. Reduce waste and flash up the driveway.
